At last, Waikīkī’s most iconic hotel reveals her true brand identity.

Upon arrival, you’re greeted with the storybook charm of the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa. Tradewinds and sea mist dance through the open lobby, and you’re embraced by the Pacific Ocean—just steps away. The stars have now aligned, offering the ‘First Lady of Waikīkī’ a long-awaited opportunity to express who she truly is.

Since her opening in 1901 by Chamberlain Peacock, the Moana has passed through the hands of renowned corporations—Matson, Sheraton, and now Marriott’s Westin Collection. For decades, her individuality was often tucked beneath the banners of these global brands. Today, however, under Westin’s care, her character is finally given space to shine. With a $70M renovation revitalizing her rooms and lobby, and 125th anniversary on the horizon, the Moana Surfrider stands ready to celebrate her legacy and embrace her future as a world-class destination.

Working better together.

Christine joined this initiative as the Creative Strategist, collaborating with Onward Creative—a design studio specializing in branding, motion, editorial, and print design. Working alongside a talented team of creatives, writers, and a cultural practitioner, Christine played a pivotal role in bridging the many elements of place, ensuring they aligned seamlessly with the Moana’s essence and expression.

As the Moana Surfrider celebrates her 125th anniversary in 2026 and unveils a series of meaningful renovations, Onward Creative will continue to guide her brand voice, elevate her design system, and steward the assets. Through this work, she continues to shine as a leader in Waikiki and an enduring standard of Hawaiian hospitality.
